LARGE DOGS available for adoption
LAST UPDATED:18 November 2008
GUS  ( Border Collie x Labrador) Male 11 years old

Gus has just come into foster care and is very pleased to be out of the pound. He met my 6 dog pack without any problems and is now enjoying pottering around the large yard.  Gus settled in really quickly  and within a couple of hours had found the dog pool and had a dip, and is giving me big smiles and tail wags.

Gus is more Labrador than Border Collie - size of a Lab with some white markings. Poor old Gus was reluctantly handed in for rehoming after his people moved into town from the country.

Gus is a dignified older gent - he may be passed his prime but has many good years left. Gus has been checked by the vet and apart from a couple of lipomas on his belly he is in excellent health with good teeth. Lipomas are fatty, benign tumours that often affect older dogs, particularly Labradors. We are having a biopsy performed to check and will update when results are available.

Gus has a wonderful temperament, and loves people and children. He loves belly scratches but his great joy is playing with balls and squeaky toys - he will fetch them but not bring them back although gives them back nicely when asked!

Gus gets on very well with other dogs (he came from a 3 dog household), has basic obedience, comes when called and can sit, drop and shake hands. Gus is house trained and used to sleep in the laundry. He rides nicely in the car too.

Gus is a truly lovely gentleman who still has quite a spark in him! He is looking for someone special to love him for the rest of his life.

More information will be available as Gus settles into his foster home.

Gus is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and on heartworm prevention.

BRUNO (Crossbreed, male, 18  to 24 months)

A very special home required for a very special boy

A bloke’s best mate:

Bruno is a very special boy who is looking for a very special home.  It was evident early on to his carers when they first brought Bruno into their home that people have been less than kind to him.  He was scared of pats, the lead and just about anything else he thought people might do to him. In his early foster care time, he was also the recipient of regular teasing, threatening gestures and hurled items in his own yard by passersby until his carers caught the culprits out.

However, with love and trust, Bruno is enjoying life with his carers and is now the first to wine at the door for his walk or rub up against your legs for a pat and cuddle.  While his carers adore this special boy, he is craving his own forever home where he can devote himself to his special person/people.  Given his rough start, Bruno is looking for a stable, loving, low throughput household with either single person or couple.  He responds well to men and really would, in time, be a blokes best mate.  His new home should be committed to continuing his training and attending to his special needs.

Given his previous mistreatment, Bruno is unlikely to  fall instantly in love with you, but earn his trust with a little time and patience and you will have an utterly devoted companion for life.  In return for giving him a loving home, Bruno will reward you as a loyal and affectionate companion who will always be ready to great you day or night whatever the time, an easy on lead walking or jogging companion, an intruder detector and security system, a cat deterrent and a smoochy couch companion.

Bruno may suit a potential range of  homes, including a person/couple out on a property looking for a companion to spend their days on the farm with or look after the family home, a tradesperson who may want a buddy to come with them on jobs during the day and look after their tools, a companion for someone in security doing nightly patrols, a young couple or person looking to have a dog to bond with that will look after their home while they are away at work, or a retired person/couple craving constant doggy companionship.

Bruno is desexed, C5 vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and heartworm free for a negotiable adoption fee of $150 for the right home.

MIA (Crossbreed, female, 5 months)

Mia and her brother Moe (seen below) are two adorable pups taken into foster care after being dumped at the pound. Despite their cold hard start to life (click here to read about their brush with death), you couldn't find a sweeter and softer pair of pups around.
Both Mia and her brother play well with dogs of all shapes and sizes, happily share food and a bed with anyone who cares to join them. Mia is the more outgoing of the two, with loads of spunk and personality to boot.  She will eagerly get involved in any game going.  Both Mia and Moe adore people and will happily follow their carers around whatever they are doing, enjoying a pat, cuddle, game and snooze on the couch with them.

Both pups are learning to walk on lead and offlead with recall, have mealtime manners, can sit on command and will come when called.
They are both crate trained and settle quickly at night until the next morning.  They enjoy both time outside with their doggy companions and time inside at night with their people.  They show no interest in our cats and actually prefer to steer clear of those hissing creatures!

Being young pups, Mia and Moe are both looking for homes that will continue their training and socialisation and provide them with regular exercise.  They would also both love a home with another doggy companion.

Mia is desexed, C5 vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, heartworm free and available for $300.
